Rudy Kinard was the son of Michael & Mary Ann Kinard and the husband of Sarah Garbrick, whom he married September 9, 1866, in York. In 1860, he was a farmer living in Lower Windsor Township, York County. He was 5' 7" tall and had light hair and gray eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Wrightsville October 21, 1861, with Co. I, 76th Pa Inf, serving at the rank of private. Wounded in the lower right leg and back and captured at the first battle of Fort Wagner July 11, 1863. Paroled at Richmond September 29, 1864, and honorably discharged November 28, 1864.


9 Dec 1918: Rudy Kinard died at the Columbia hospital at 10 o'clock Sunday night, December 8 from a complication of diseases. He was 79 years and 29 days old, a veteran of the Civil war, and a pensioner for number of years. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. William Whitekettle, Spring Grove; Mrs. J.E. Dellinger, Mrs. Arvilla Frey, of this place; Mrs. L.L. Ganger, Atco, NJ; Mrs. Edward Shingler, York; Mrs. Solomon Shearer and Harry Kinard, this place. The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home of J.E. Dellinger, to which place the body was taken from the hospital. Rev. Paul Y. Livingston, pastor of the Lutheran church, will officiate. Interment will be made in Fairview cemetery. [Gazette Daily, York co, PA]
