Daughter of Joseph and Anna Syp Koltys. She was born in Phila., Pa. in 1915 to immigrant parents from Poland.

At the age of 16 she met and married 1st husband Andrew F. Kolsun. They had Jacqueline Mary, and Andrew Joseph. She helped start and run the Wholesale Candy and Tabacco Co. named "Kolsun Brothers" in Camden NJ in the 1930's as packer, secretary, and delivery driver.

They divorced in 1946. Since men generally received custody of the children, Helena eventually made her way west and took a job as head of housekeeping at a hotel (name unknown) in Lake Tahoe, Na.

This is where she met and married 2nd husband Thore Skrogstad, who was the head chef at the hotel. When they retired they moved to Glen Avon in So. Ca., where they lived until Thore's death in 1965.
