Richard Prodan, 85 of Carmichaels, Pa., died at 8:26 A.M. on Sunday, September 5, 2010 in the Golden Living Center, Waynesburg, Pa. He was born February 6, 1925 in Nemacolin, Cumberland Township, Greene County, Pa., a son of the late George Prodan and Mary (Sabol) Prodan Horwath. Mr. Prodan resided in Cumberland Township most of his life. He worked for Alcoa Aluminum Corporation in Ohio for 10 years and worked as a motorman at the Nemacolin Mine until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Prodan was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 6290 in Nemacolin and enjoyed gathering with his friends in Carmichaels and "discussing current events". He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. In May of 1948, he married Mary Kathryn Obrovac who died February 6, 1999.

Surviving are a daughter, Jeri Homistek and her husband, William of Carmichaels; a granddaughter, Holly Homistek of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two brothers, Robert Horwath and his wife, Pat of San Angelo, Tex. and Joseph Horwath and his wife, Rose of Streetsboro, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two brothers Alex Prodan and George Prodan; a sister, Frances Helmick and his stepfather, Pete Horwath.

A private blessing service was held on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Carmichaels, Pa. with the Rev. John M. Bauer officiating.
