Joe Hickman, 83, went gracefully to his heavenly home with the Lord on Friday, January 16, 2015.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2015, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 518 N. 8th St., with Reverend Leon E. Whaley, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Abilene Municipal Cemetery, directed by Abilene Funeral Home.

Mr. Hickman was born February 15, 1931, in Madisonville, Texas to Burt and Pinkie Hickman.

Joe married his loving wife of 44 years, Helen Stevenson in July 1970.

He was a Deacon for Mt. Moriah Baptist Church and enjoyed reading his Bible.

Joe was a dedicated employee of Hendrick Medical Center for 25 years. Mr. Hickman also worked with his brother in the restaurant business for many years.

He attended Woodson High School and was willing to serve whoever was in need.

Joe will be missed by family, friends and neighbors. We will celebrate his life and the joy he brought to us all, Rest in Peace.

Left to cherish his memories include his wife, Helen Hickman of Abilene; six children; a brother; a sister; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Hickman was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and six sisters.

The family will not be having a visitation prior to the service.
