Joseph Patrick Kavanagh, the son of James Kavanagh and Margaret Byrne, married Mary Helen Pokorny, the daughter of Joseph Pokorny and Barbara 'Korbel', on 12 August 1903, in River Forest, Cook County, Illinois. Joseph and Mary were the parents of five children known, Joseph F., Margaret K., James Patrick, Mary Alyce and Francis A. Kavanagh

Chicago Daily Tribune 15 December 1943

Joseph P. Kavanagh, retired employee of the Carnegie-Illinois Steel Corporation, died last night in his home at 1637 North Ayers Avenue at the age of 73 years. He is survived by his widow, Mary and three sons, Joseph, a Tribune Company photo engraver for 20 years; James P., a Tribune rolo engraver for 15 years; Staff Sgt. Francis E., a former Tribune engraving department employee, now with the army air forces in England, and two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Bronke and Mrs. Maryalyce Ilobik [Hobek]. Services were held Friday at 9 a. m. from the late residence, then to Maternity B.V.M. Church on North Avenue. Interment at Calvary Cemetery ~
