Sally Pankey Wilson entered into eternal rest at her home on Friday, January 16, 2015, after a long illness. She was born in Hinton, West Virginia on July 3, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Titus and Anne Wesley Pankey of Charlottesville.

After moving to Charlottesville at an early age she entered Jefferson School and was a member of the graduating class of 1946. Mrs. Wilson received her bachelor's degree from Virginia State College in 1950. Her professional career spanned 35 years as an elementary school educator in Bowling Green, Virginia and at Jefferson, Clark, and Venable Elementary schools in Charlottesville. She taught before integration and during the "Massive Resistance" days at the Jefferson School; and was one among those first African American teachers who integrated the teaching staff in the Charlottesville schools.

Mrs. Wilson enjoyed fishing, collecting antiques and was an active member of the Toppers Social Club and a consummate pinochle player. She is best remembered by her 13th Street, N.W. friends and neighbors for allowing the generous use of her pool, that was the only one for miles around; and for lending a helping hand for those in need, who came to her doorsteps.
