ALLIE (CHAMBERS) LARUE

Allie was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Weiler) Chambers. Her father died sometime before 1900 (when her mother is listed as a widow in the 1900 federal census), and she had a brother, William, who was married to Dulcie.

Allie, her mother and her brother always lived close together, for many years in the same home, after the family moved to the Los Angeles area.

Allie first married Vance L Tinker, a native of Alabama, when she was 21, and he 24, in Santa Ana, Orange County, California, on November 7, 1906. Sadly, their marriage was still a honeymoon when Vance died from tuberculosis in 1908. Allie traveled to Bridgeport, Alabama a couple of times after Vance's death to visit with his family there.

Allie's second marriage was to Harry E. Slattery, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, who had located to the Los Angeles area. They were married October 26, 1913, and in the 1920 census lived in the rear of the home of Allie's mother, Mary--Allie's brother William and his wife also lived with Mary. Harry worked in sales in a department store and Allie worked in a beauty parlor. It is not known when they divorced or separated.

Allie next married Frank LaRue, son of John and Emma LaRue, his family locating to Los Angeles from Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri in 1913.

Allie and Frank had no children as far as is known (Allie reported the information in her 1940 census record that she had never had children). They lived in a home on LaSalle street for many years in Los Angeles.

Allie's mother Mary and her brother William and his wife Delcie, moved next door to Allie and Frank sometime in the late 1920's.

Allie and Frank had a happy home and marriage, always generous with their time, and pleased to entertain guests and family when they arrived from out-of-town. Frank's brother, Jesse and his family would come to visit from Missouri, and letters from the family always noted going to visit with Frank and Allie.

Allie died in her home on LaSalle street from a weakened heart. She was buried in this cemetery on April 17th, and was survived by her husband, Frank, her brother William having preceded her in death in 1941. William also is buried in this cemetery.
