Ross Darwin Kimerling, attended of Salina High School in Salina, Kansas. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 194?, and served as a Yeoman 2 class? He served on the USS Portland in all 15 major campaigns and battles it was engaged in during WW2. He married Marion on April 9, 1948, in Nebraska. Together they had four children. He was born Ross D. Kimmerling, but the U.S. Navy made a typo in his military records, and thus he was forced to accept the Navy's error in spelling (Kimerling), for the remainder of his life (too much bureaucracy to correct).
