Leslie, “Les”, “Zap” Zapotocny, 64 of Cresco, Iowa passed away at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco on Sunday, January 25, 2015.

Les was born on May 28, 1950 to Frank and Minnie (Crawford) Zapotocny in Cresco, Iowa. He graduated in 1968 from Crestwood High School. Les worked for the Howard County Secondary Road Division and drove semi in the wintertime. He was a member of the Howard County Fair Board for over 20 years. He also took care of and maintained the Howard County racetrack for over 30 years, which also included racing on it himself. He owned and operated his own stump grinding business for many years. He was also one of the original crew members that brought the train into Beatle Park where it currently sits.

Les enjoyed watching Green Bay Packer games, fishing, playing cards, deer hunting, hanging out with his friends, restoring various items like classic cars, tractors, and the train. He was a great asset to his friends, family, and the community.

He is survived by his wife Monica of Cresco, Iowa, a daughter Cheryl (Todd) Tewes of Mindoro, WI, one grandson Korey of Eitzen, MN, a sister Joan (Jon) Bessingpas of Harmony, MN, along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation:
Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.

Service:
Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 30, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, Iowa.

Cemetery:
Burial will take place at Oaklawn Cemetery in Cresco at a later date
