Robert Edward Scott, 91, passed away peacefully in hospice care on Saturday, March 8, 2014, in Houston, following a brief illness.

He was born in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, October 19, 1922, the only son of William Robert "Willie" and Ava Mignon (Ervin) Scott. When he was 2 years old his family moved to Santa Rosa, Texas, in 1923. He was valedictorian of his class at both Santa Rosa High School and Edinburgh Junior College.

Robert married the love of his life, Betsy Jane Allen, in 1945.

After graduating the University of Texas with BS and MS degrees in Chemistry, and completing service in the US Army during and after WWII, he settled in Corpus Christi as a research chemist for Columbia Southern, which later was acquired by PPG Industries.

In Corpus Christi he raised his three sons, was a Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church, and in retirement was active in the Corpus Christi Personal Computer Club and served as Commander of the Coastal Bend Power Squadron. He loved fishing, sailing, boating, photography and travel. He retired from PPG in 1983, and in 2008 moved to Houston for medical care and to be close to his sons and grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Betsy; his parents; his sisters Elizabeth Scott Caudill and Wilva Scott Evans; grand-daughter Erin Scott; and nephew William "Bill" Evans. He was survived by his three sons, Gary (and Debbie Jester), Neal (and Sally Scott), and David (and Twyla Matthews); grandchildren Kelly, Brian and Patrick Scott, and niece Janet Caudill Borman (and Doyle Borman); and great grandson Nathan Scott Gutierrez.

The family extends very special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Gilad Amiel, of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, for his great care and the many extra years of quality life that Robert had as a cancer survivor.
