Wilva Scott Evans was born on July 21, 1916, in Crystal Springs, Mississippi.  Her mother, Ava Mignon Ervin Scott, had been a teacher in Mississippi; and her father, William Robert Scott, was a farmer.  Her home life was one of culture, discipline, and thrift; and early she developed a love for books.

When Mrs. Evans was seven years of age, she moved with her family to the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, where her father was first a citrus grower in Santa Rosa and then a cotton farmer until he retired.  When she was eleven, she became a Christian and joined the Baptist Church.

She was fifteen when she decided she would teach English, a decision inspired by her high school teacher Mrs. Jettie Felps, at Santa Rosa High School.  At sixteen she finished high school with salutatory honors.

While attending Mary Hardin-Baylor, she worked in the college library and took an active part in the religious, social, and intellectual life of the campus.  Particular honors were being a secretary in Mr. William H. Vann's Sunday School Class, being elected to membership in Royal Academia Literary Society, and editing the "BAYLORIAN" college magazine.  She received her BA degree in 1937.

Following graduation she taught English in Santa Rosa, Premont, and Hutto, Texas; Buckner Academy in Dallas, Mission High School, and Wynn Seale and Baker Junior High Schools in Corpus Christi. She taught at Baker Jr High for 23 years, until her retirement in 1977.

She did graduate study at the University of Texas at Austin and Texas College of Arts and Industries in Kingsville, where she received her MA degree in 1951.

She was married in 1941 and had one son, William Scott Evans.

She was also a member of the Poetry Society of Texas and was elected to membership in Delta Kappa Gamma in 1952 at Mission, Texas.

She particularly enjoyed her travels in and outside the US, her son accompanying her on several journeys.  Her travels in the States included Washington State, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Louisiana, Mississippi, Massachusetts, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Washington, D.C.  She also enjoyed a cruise on the DELTA QUEEN from New Orleans to Cincinnati.  Her travels outside the US included several countries in Europe, the British Isles, Bible Lands, and the Orient.  She also enjoyed her visits with friends to many points of interest in Texas.

In 1964 she published two books of poetry, EMBERS OF TRUTH, a series of 52 sonnets; and FORTY WINKS, 40 bits of light verse.

She was preceded in death by her mother in 1966, her father in 1969, and her sister Elizabeth Scott Caudill in 1977.

Mrs. Evans has been a member of the Poetry Society of Texas, several Retired Teacher Associations, and these Baptist churches in Corpus Christi: Lindale, Bethel, Alameda and Travis Baptist of which she was a member at the time of her death and where she taught a Sunday School class for many years.

Mrs. Evans was survived by her son William Scott Evans of Corpus Christi; her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Scott of Corpus Christi; her niece and family of Waco; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law of Lexington, Ky., Mr. And Mrs. John W. Caudill; and three nephews and their families of Houston.
