She moved to San Diego in 1940 where she met her husband Harry F. Bagby, a prominent real estate broker in San Diego for 45 years. They married in Yuma, Arizona October 20, 1942 and were lovingly together for almost 51 years. Adelia will be remembered as a loving, giving, caring and devoted wife, mother, precious grandma, sister, aunt and friend.
Adelia made her many friends with her association with the Easter Star, East San Diego Chapter, North Park Business and Professional Women's Club, Uptown Optimist of which she was president in 1961 and Terra Del Sol Jeep Club. She was a member of College Ave. Baptist Church from 1960 after receiving the Lord as her savior at the Billy Graham Crusade. She proudly served as Cub Scout and Brownie leader.
But her most dedicated role in life was "Mom" to her loving son, Martin H. Bagby of Lakeside, Calif. and daughter Linda B. Gilmer, son-in-law Gary R. Gilmer of Frederick, Md. She devoted her life to her family with love, guidance and support. After Harry's retirement in 1983 they traveled the US and Canada in their motorhome with their loving dogs.
In addition, Adelia is lovingly survived by her grandchildren, Gabrielle and Samuel Spaulding of Lakeside, Calif. Lacy & Kevin Gilmer, of Frederick, Md. Her brother Joseph Boyce Wyatt, 4 sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews who will remember their "Aunt DeeDee" fondly. Also preceded in death by 4 brothers, 2 sisters, nieces and nephews.
Visitation with family and friends will take place 4-8pm on Friday, March 14, 2003 at Benbough Chapel, 3051 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego. A celebration of her life will be at 11am on Saturday, March 15, 2003 in the Sorrento Valley Chapel at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Valley Rd., San Diego. Cryptside will follow. The family suggest donations to San Diego Hospice, 4311 3rd Ave., San Diego, CA 92103. As they provided comfort and peace to our Mom and we thank them. Published in U-T San Diego on Mar. 14, 2003
