Floyd Cornette was the son of Jerry and Barbara Blankenship Cornette. He had an older sister Virgie and two half-brothers John and Hobert. Floyd's mother died when he was young, and he was raised by his mother's sister Polly and her husband Floyd Burchette. He married Edna Williamson, daughter of Benjamin and Virginia Belle Deskins. Their children were Hatler, Barbara Belle, Thadeus "Fathies", Sylvia, and Lucille.
