"Sacred to the memory of Capt. Moses Porter who was born at Hadley January 13 AD 1721 & was slain by the Indians near Crown Point in the morning scout of the 8th of Sepr 1755

Earth's ev'ry station ends in "here he lies"
but life immortal waits beyond the grave"

He left his wife and daughter in 1755 to fight in the French & Indian War. Was killed in the Battle of Bloody Morning Scout. An Indian brought his sword to his widow.
