1865 Nov 2 - Born John Carl Richard Kindervater in Nordhausen, Germany, son of Albert Kindervater (from gravestone and 1922 passport application)

1888 - Departure from Hamburg, arrival in US (1910 and 1920 Censuses, 1922 US passport application) The 1900 Census gives the year of immigration as 1881.

1900 Census - Little Rock Ward 2
Richard Kindervater, 35, head, married 7 yrs, born in Germany, parents born in Germany, immigrated 1881, in US 19 yrs, naturalized, butcher; wife Hulda 23; daughter Irene 6; Emma 5; son Dehart [sic] 3; father Albert 63.

1906 Sept 27- Aged 40. Sailed from Cuxhaven, Germany on the Kaiserin Auguste Victoria with wife Hulda, 29; daughters Alvine, 11, Emma, 10, and Alma 3; sons Richard [sic], 9, and Richard, 6. Arrived Port of NY 6 Oct. [Note that Richard is listed twice. The older boy is probably Gerhardt.]

1910 Census of Little Rock, Pulaski Co., AR: Richard Kindervater, 44, married 16 years, born in Germany, butcher-own shop; wife Hulda 32; children Alvina 16, Emma 14, Gerhardt 12, Richard 9, Alma 7, Hulda, 2 and Albert 2/12 [?]. His cousin [sic - nephew?] Walter Fleming, 18, lives with the family, as does boarder Eugene Schafer, 21.

1920 Census of Little Rock Ward 2, Pulaski Co., AR: Richard Kindervater Sr., head, 54, divorced*, proprietor of a meat shop, immigrated 1888, naturalized in 1911, born in Germany, resides 1424 Barber Ave; sons Gerhardt 22, Richard 19, Albert 10, and daughters Alma 16, Hulda 12, and Alvina Weise 26; son-in-law Walter Weise 27. [*Richard's wife Hulda died in 1911. Unless he remarried and divorced between the time of her death and this census, of which I find no record, the status "divorced" recorded in this census is in error.]

1922 March 14 - Passport Application of John Carl Richard Kindervater yields following information: born 2 Nov 1865 at Nordhausen, Germany. Son of Albert Kindervater, deceased, who was also born in Nordhausen. He left Hamburg, Germany 15 Nov 1888 and has resided from 1888 to 1922 in Little Rock, AR. He resides a 1424 Barber Ave and is a butcher by occupation. In 1908 he became a US citizen.

1922 May 2 - Passport application of Augusta Theme Kindervater, "second wife of Richard Kindervater." She was born 3 April 1864 in Görsbach, Germany, and resides 2306 West 18th St., Little Rock. [Note: Auguste was the sister of Richard's late wife Hulda and the mother of the Walter Fleming who was living with the family in the 1910 Census. The marriage was of short duration.]

1922 Oct 12 - Richard Kindervater, resides in Little Rock AR, naturalized 2 Nov 1908, arrived NY 12 Oct 1922 from Hamburg on the Resolute with wife Auguste.

1930 Census of Little Rock, Pulaski Co., AR: Richard Kindervater, head, 65, widowed*, resides 1501 Barber Ave, retired meat cutter, married at age 27, born in Germany; son Albert 20, born AR, single, com'l traveler for a credit rating co. [*Note: 2nd wife Auguste Kindervater was alive and living alone as a widow in 1930.]

1939 Jul 1 - Death (gravestone and Arkansas Death Index, AR, Roll 19341940)

1947 Mar 24 - Death of second wife Auguste. She is buried in Oakland Cemetery next to her first husband, Charles Fleming. [See #16486562]
