HANOVER Margaret (Wertz) Frey Hursh, 92, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Hanover Hospital. She was the wife of the late Harold Hostetter Frey and the late Paul J. Hursh, Sr.
Born January 28, 1923, in Glen Rock, near Lineboro, Md., she was the daughter of the late James R. and Iva May (Stiffler) Wertz.
Margaret was a graduate of Manchester (MD) High School Class of 1941. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Hanover. Margaret was employed for more than 25 years with Cole Steel/Litton Industries, York. She was a wonderful cook and had a book of her own homemade recipes. Margaret was also a professional seamstress, making lots of her own clothing and was a member of the Hostetter sewing circles. She was a very active volunteer with the Hanover Area Council of Churches PAL lunch program and as a seamstress for Hanover Hospital.
She is survived by her son, James H. "Jim" Frey and his wife Norma-Jean "N.J." of Hanover. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Elizabeth May Frey Schwan and Lois Marie Frey Lockner.
A funeral service for Margaret Frey Hursh will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Bair's Mennonite Meeting House, 6925 York Road, Hanover, with Pastor Dave Keller and the Rev. Brenda K. Marin officiating. The viewings will be on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wetzel Funeral Home and Crematory, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA, and again on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at church.
Burial will be in York Road Cemetery, Hanover. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Margaret Frey Hursh to the American Cancer Society, 924-N Colonial Ave., York, PA 17403; or The Huntington's Disease Society of America, 502 W. Germantown Pike, Suite 405, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462.
