Peter was born to Maren and Osul Anderson in Norway. He first appears in census records in 1850 in Buchanan County, Missouri with his parents and siblings. They also appear in 1860 in Wayne Township, Doniphan County, Kansas Territory.
Peter Anderson enlisted in Co. F, 10th Kansas Infantry as a Corporal in August of 1861. He served until the end of the war. An 1888 GAR record from the Kennedy Post # 292 at Troy, Kansas, records his Civil War service and that he resided in the Idaho Territory.
About 1879 Peter married Harriet who had a daughter, Mable about 5 years old. In 1892 Harriet gave birth in Arco to their daughter Mary. 1900 finds Peter in the census records of Arco, Idaho with his wife Harriet, stepdaughter Mable, and daughter Mary. (The census also recorded that Harriet had had six children and five of them were living in 1900.)
After Peter's death Harriet received a Civil War pension on April 3, 1903.
