BROWNLEY, JAMES: Born c.1825. Carpenter, living at a boarding house run by the Dix family in Lancaster Co., in 1850. Working as a farm laborer for Polly Buckon in 1860. Enlisted in the 92nd Va. Militia, based at White Stone, Lancaster Co., on 5/22/61, with the rank of corporal. On 3/25/62, he and the rest of the 92nd re-enlisted as Co. L, 55th Va. Inf.. Present for duty on all rolls through 6/30/62. Died of disease in hospital at Winchester, 9/26/62.
