Edward Harris was born in England, May 4, 1827, to James Harris and Ann (Harper) Harris. He came to America with his parents , while he was still an infant, and was raised in the State of New York.

He married Sarah E. Ford on March 29, 1958 in New York. This union was blessed with the following children. Six girls, Nettie E. , Emma B., Ella B., Mary, Rhoda, and Estella K "Annie", and one son, James L. Harris. Estella lived only about a month and a half.

Edward and Sarah come to Johnson county, Iowa, in 1855, and they continued to reside in Johnson county until 1872. While here Edward was a successful hard working farmer.

They moved to Dallas County in 1874 and engaged again in farming. He owned two hundred acres of land.

On July 1, 1863, Edward had enlisted in the 22nd Regiment, Iowa Infantry, Company K, to fight on the side of the Union, and was soon discharged due to an illness.

Edward died February 25, 1903, in Dallas County, Adel, Iowa.
