Back in the era of farmers' institutes, Blackford became known as the silver-tongued orator of Ohio. His father was Rev. John Henry Blackford, a Universalist minister. The family was prominent to Monroe Township, residing east of Eldorado.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Helen Brown of R.R. 2, Lewisburg; Mrs. Grace Helton, of Dayton; and Martha Blackford, at home; a son, John, of Cincinnati; a sister, Mrs. Grace Ricketts of Monson, Mass.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The son is a cum laude graduate of Miami University, Oxford, and is a prominent education in Cincinnati.
Services were conducted Sunday in the Harry Bussard Funeral Home at Eldorado with Rev. Welts Behee (?) officiating. Cremation followed.
