An important person in the history of Stuttgart, Miss Julia Shannon. (1870-1948), arrived in 1884 from Paris, Bourbon County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Arkansas County Judge Thomas Shannon (1832-1909). Beginning in 1892 she taught school and was a school administrator for the next 47 years. Her long service to Stuttgart was recognized by the naming of an elementary school in her honor. She is buried in Lone Tree Cemetery in Stuttgart.
