Children's Entertainer. A native of Kirkman, Iowa, Anderson is best remembered for his role as 'Clarabell The Clown' on the classic children's program, "Howdy Doody" from 1947 to 1960. In the late 1940s, he joined The Honey Dreamers, a vocal group that appeared on NBC radio & TV including early television shows like The Ed Sullivan Show. Although 'Clarabelle' never spoke a word on the program, the character did say 'Goodbye, Kids' in the very last episode. Anderson is also widely known by jazz music fans as a prolific jazz arranger, big band leader, and alto saxophonist. He also played the clarinet.
