John landed in the United States on the Ship Nevada on 25 Oct 1869. His parents were Elias (1811-1871) and Emma Mark (1818-1890) Jenkins.
The Late John Jenkins
Death claimed one of our most esteemed citizens when John Jenkins passed away at his home in town on Friday evening, September 7th, after a somewhat lingering illness.
Born in Tredegar, South Wales, on December 21, 1853, deceased came to the States in 1869, and to Canada in 1902 where he and family settled in the Wood River district. Mr. Jenkins was an honest hardworking citizen, who had made good in this district, being looked upon as one of our most successful farmers. Of a genial and kindly disposition, he was well known and held in high esteem. On account of advancing years and indifferent health, he relinquished the active management of the farm to one of his sons, and along with Mrs. Jenkins moved to town, where they have lived for several years.
Mr. Jenkins married Mary E. Lewis in 1878, and of this union four sons were born--Thomas, Gomer, Elias and Reuben--who are farming in the Ponoka district, and who, along with Mrs. Jenkins, have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.
The funeral took place on Sunday from the Baptist church to Forest Home Cemetery, the Rev. T. E. Jeffreys, of Calgary, an old friend of the family, conducting the services.
