This data concerning Richard Salisbury was obtained from papers on file in pension claims, S-28864, based upon his service in the War of the Revolution. Richard Salisbury was born April 14, 1760 in Gloucester Rhode Island. While a resident of Gloucester, Rhode Island Richard Salisbury, served in the fall of 1776, about forty days as a private in Captain Mays company of Rhode Island troops. He served in 1777, four months in Captain May's company, and five weeks at the taking of Burgoyne, in Captain Dexter's company. He served in 1778, three months in Captain May's company on alarms to defend Providence, Bristol, and Hog Island, was also in General Sullivan's Expedition. Her served in 1779, about one month in Captain May's company. He enlisted sometime in March, 1781, served nine months in Captain Dexter'
s company, Colonel Jeremiah Olney's Rhode Island regiment. Richard Salisbury moved from Gloucester, Rhode Island ,when he was about 45 years of age, with his family, to "Weston on the Mohawk River" in New York State, where he lived about fifteen years, then moved to Gravely Point on the St. Lawrence, in a few years returned to Weston, and from there moved Randolph, Cattaraugus County, New York. He applied for pension October 3, 1832, then living in Randolph, New York, where he had lived about nine years. Pension allowed. Richard Salisbury died in Randolph, New York, July 16, 1833, leaving no widow, the name of his wife was not stated, and there was no data relative to their marriage or to her death at this time. Later research finds a marriage in 1785 to Prudence Madison Salisbury.
