LAURA ANN ELLIS RUSHING

Laura Ann Ellis Rushing of Kerrville passed away on August 18, 2005.

She maintained her sense of humor and passed peacefully.

Laura was born at home on December 31, 1932, in Three Lakes, Texas, and raised in west Texas by parents Thelma Hickerson Ellis and James Hogg Ellis, among a large and loving extended family.

Laura grew up in Plains, Texas, surrounded by that family and many others who appreciated her sense of mischief and adventure, and protected her from possible mishaps. She attended Texas Tech and pursued a degree in Education as she continued to encourage a sense of adventure among her many friends.

As a public school teacher, primarily in Kindergarten, but in other grades as well, Laura devoted 27 years to preparing children to approach life with confidence and curiosity. She worked to instill in her students an appreciation for other cultures and respect for all people. She shared, as well, her love of music, ranging from Fats Domino to Mozart. Endlessly loyal to her friends, and fiercely protective of her family, Laura lived and loved intensely. Her stories about her family and friends engaged and entertained others who shared her life.

Laura and James Rushing were married December 31, 1955. They divorced in Kerrville, Texas, March 18, 1985.

Although her children grew up away from west Texas, Laura's stories instilled a powerful sense of home.

Survivors include children James Michiel Rushing of Austin, Texas, Cecil Jay Rushing of Trophy Club, Texas, and Terri Ann Rushing of Atlanta, Georgia, and their respective partners Deanna, Patty and Angela; Jay's children, Tyler Jake, Justin Tate and Trenton Jay; and brother james Hickerson Ellis, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Services were held on Monday, August 22, 2005 at Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Blackburn and Dr. John Petty officiating. Graveside services were held Tuesday, August 23, 2005 at Tahoka Cemetery in Tahoka, Texas

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Grimes Funeral Chapel of Kerrville.
