Marvel Mills was the son of William Mills and Eleanor Morris Mills. He married Mary Dickerson Chambliss (1792-1870). Her grave site is also in this small cemetery.
The "Errata" in the book states that two of their children are buried here: Mary Selena Mills (1823-1840) and George Jones Mills (1813-1891) whose wife, Ella Boylston Mills (1828-1863) also has a grave site here.
Obituary: "Died on the 22d ult., at his well-known residence in Rutherford County, N.C., Mr. Marvel Mills, in the 77th year of his age. He was born on Green River, about five miles distant from the spot where he died. He married Mary Chamblis in the year 1798, near Columbia, S.C., and shortly after settled on the estate where he died. He was by profession a merchant. On the day succeeding that of his death, his funeral was impressively preached and his body attended to the grave by a large concourse of citizens. He leaves a most worthy widow and five children, together with a large number of relatives and friends to mourn his loss." Mountain Banner. (August 10, 1849)
