David Cook was the youngest of twelve children of Edward Cook and Nancy Ann Thomas. He married Elsie Watts May 19, 1839. David and Elsie had six children: John D. Cook married Elizabeth Huffman; Mary Anna Cook married Jonas Henry Ramsey; Aaron Cook married (1) Martha White (2) Emma Presley; Eli Cook married Sarah Lou Carswell; Riley Cook married Elizabeth Hudson; and David A. Cook married Annie Louise Hawkins. The 1850 Burke Co., NC Mortality Schedule says that David Cook, 36 years old, died in October 1849 after an illness of 60 days. No cause of death was reported. "The Cook History and Genealogy" book by Rev. Earl A. Cook, published in 1941, states, "David was buried on the mountain known as Ben's Knob in Cleveland Co., NC. His grave is marked with a red soapstone rock, placed there by two grandsons, Wates and Thomas Cook". Rev. Earl A. Cook was a great-grandson of David and Elsie Cook.
