Ms Curtis was awarded the Palms of the Academy, the French Red Cross, the Legion of Honor, and the American Red Cross decoration for overseas service. She was director of Kindergartens of New York City. She raised funds and trained teachers to work with children devastated by WWI. One of her famous phrases was: "We who desire peace must write it in the hearts of children."
