Mrs. Clara L. “Peggy” Cody, age 82 of Griffin, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Spalding Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Cody was born in Clayton County, Georgia on July 11, 1932. She is preceded in death by her parents, Luther David Chambers and Mary Lou McIntyre Chambers; husband, Ray Cody; daughter, Susan Cody; brother, David Chambers; sister, Jo Woods. Mrs. Cody was a retired school teacher, retiring from the Spalding County Board of Education. She was a member of Orchard Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy (Cody) and Carl Thompson of Eclectic, Alabama; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Ruth Cody of Griffin; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy (Cody) and Stephen Bankston of Fayetteville, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Leslie Cody of Williamson, Georgia; grandchildren, Kathleen and Jay Greeson of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Will Cole of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Ben Cole of Hawaii, Joel Thompson of Sharpsburg, Josh Thompson of Marietta, Jamie and Robert Donaldson of Griffin, Rusty and Sheri Polk of McDonough, Olivia Bankston of Fayetteville, Andrew Bankston of Fayetteville, Brandy and Mitchell Bass of South Carolina, Joshua “Josh” Huff of Milner, ten great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Marijean Chambers of Peachtree City, brother-in-law, Donald Woods of Griffin, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for Clara L. “Peggy” Cody will be Monday, March 9, 2015 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 1:00pm at Orchard Hill Baptist Church. Reverend Nelson Grist will officiate. Mrs. Cody will lie-in-state from 12:30 until the time of service. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
