Thomas Petersen Rites Held Here Friday
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the farm home and Synod church for Thomas Petersen, 80, who passed away at a Detroit Lakes hospital Sunday, January 13, following an illness of several months.
Rev. Runholt officiated at the services and interment was made in the north cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ed Bly, Oscar Syverson, Knute Thorson, Ben Pollock, Leonard Hauge and Fritjof Morken.
Thomas Petersen was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany on October 30, 1865. He was the son of Thomas and Marie Petersen.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Kreia, Flensburg.
In 1888 he left Germany and came to Davenport, Iowa. Three years later he went to Sutherland, Ia.
On December 12, 1895 he was married to Anna Christine Eichner, to this union nine children were born.
They made their home in Iowa until 1915 when he moved with his family to Ulen, Minnesota, where he resided until his death.
On December 12, 1945 he celebrated his 50th Wedding Anniversary. He became ill on December 8. His condition becoming critical, he was taken on December 31 to St. Marys hospital in Detroit Lakes, where he passed away at 12:15 a.m. on January 13 of Pleurisy Pneumonia.
Besides his wife, he is survived by five daughters and three sons. They are Mrs. Camile (Maria) Seys of Tipton, Ia.; Mrs. Ralph (Anna) Stevens of Ponsford; Mrs. Odde (Katherine) Morken, Ulen; Mrs. Leonard (Dora) Hendrickson of Minneapolis; Rosanna, at home; Henry Petersen of Detroit Lakes; and John and Thomas at home. One son, William preceded his father in death last February.
