Leona attended Harrisville (WV) High School for two years, and later graduated from Pullman (Ritchie Co, WV) High School as salutatorian of the class of 1939. She attended Salem College, Salem, WV, and after college moved to Charleston, WV for work from 1941 to 1975. She was the retired postmaster of the former Berea and Pullman post office, and long time secretary/treasurer of the Pine Grove Community Cemetery Association of Berea, and served as the Grand Master of the North Fork Grange of Berea. She was a member of St Paul's United Methodist Church, and enjoyed gardening and quilting.
