Bessie English Acree, 94, of Martinsville, died Friday, March 13, 2015, at her residence. She was born in Reidsville, N.C., to Joseph and Nannie Hodges.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Hiram Patrick English, her second husband, Harold Acree; her sister, Jean Gibbs; and her brothers, Carl and Raymond Hodges.

She is survived by her daughters, Yvonne Gravely and Nancy Castevens, Nancy's husband Monty; and her grandchildren, Charles Castevens, Marty Gravely, and Julia Gravely.

She is also survived by her sisters, Jeanette Newman, Josephine Anthony, Betty Roark, Daisy Gibbs, Ruth Hundley, Margaret Moore, and Sally Gamber; and her brother, Bobby Hodges.

The funeral service will be held Monday, March 16, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Martinsville Chapel. Interment will be held at Roselawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The family thanks Sharon Byrd, her long time aide, and Mountain Valley Hospice for their exceptional care and assistance.
