After moving from Norwich, he lived on a farm in Orange.

He served the town in various capacities. He was selectman for 17 years, an acting justice of the peace for 35 years, town representative to the General Assembly for 14 years, a member of the council of census in 1843, a member of the constitutional convention in 1850 and was side judge of the county court in 1833 and 1834.

He was very infirm for several years before his death.
