Gertrude B. “Gertie” Skocelas age 92 of Manistee, died Saturday morning, March 14, 2015 at the Tendercare of Ludington.
She was born on Oct. 22, 1922 in Manistee, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Blanche (Nowakowski) Gregorski. Gertrude married Raymond L. Skocelas on Aug. 12, 1942 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. He preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1996.
Most of her life was dedicated to raising her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her hobbies included flower gardening, cooking and storytelling to anyone who would listen. She was a member of the Catholic Community of Manistee (Saint Joseph Catholic Church).
Gertrude is survived by her son and daughter in-law: Daniel and Linda Skocelas of Manistee, six grandchildren: Amy Johnson of Manistee, Karen (Trevor) Nash of Kaleva, Melynda Ziehm of Eastlake, John Skocelas of Eastlake, Janice (Kirk) Davidson of Thompsonville, and Jennifer Fox of Lansing, nine great grandchildren, her brother Harry Gregorski of Manistee. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.
She was preceded in death by her son James Raymond Skocelas on June 20, 2011, her great grandson: Tyler Fox and by her brothers Edward and Walter Gregorski, and an infant brother, and by two sisters, Helen Zielinski and Lorraine Veine.
Mass from The Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 11a.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee with Rev. John McCracken celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery also in Manistee.
