Bertha Wolter, nee Litka, a daughter of the late John Litka and his wife Anna, was born February 11, 1872, in Poweshiek county, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in infancy.
On April 25, 1893 she was united in marriage with Henry Wolter. This union was blessed with seven children: Clara, John, Fred, Ann and Edwin. Two died in infancy. The union lasted 43 years. In 1918 the couple celebrated their silver wedding anniversary.
The family was occupied with farming and in 1900 moved to Calumet. Her husband died February, 25, 1936. Two brothers, Gottlieb and William preceded her in death.
Since 1940, due to a stroke, her health has failed. She passed away May 8, 1943, at 7:30 a.m., having attained the age of 71 years, 2 months and 28 days.
She leaves to mourn three sons and the respective daughters-in-law: Mr. and Mrs John Wolter of Chicago, Ill; Fred Wolter of Calumet and Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Wolter of Calumet, two daughters and the respective sons-in-law: Mr and Mrs. Walter Helmuth of Chicago, Ill; and Mr. and Mrs. Leo Dupley of Omaha, Nebr, two brothers: Fred Litka and Henry Litka of Sutherland ; 8 grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
