Maria Caputo was born on 3 Dec 1878, in Sicignano degli Alburni, a town in the province of Salerno in the Campania region of southern Italy. Her parents were Luigi Caputo and Margarita Antico. Her mother had lost her first husband and ten children -- it's unclear how this impacted Maria.

In 1881, Maria's father left Italy for America. She followed with her mother in 1885 or 1887 and the family settled in North Providence, Rhode Island.

She married Domenico Conca on October 12, 1896, in North Providence and they had eight children in 16 years: Theresa, Anna, Luigi (who died as a baby), Nettie, Mary, Etta, and twins Alice and Mabel.

Domenico became a professional, a tax collector, and they bought a house on Charles Street. Like her father, Domenico died young, at 48.

Maria died on July 8, 1965, in North Providence, Rhode Island, at the age of 86, and was buried in Pawtucket, Rhode Island with Domenico and her baby, Luigi.
