Daughter of Hester "Hetty" Brown and Thomas Green, born in 1849. She was born in Arkansas, her parents, Ohio.

At the 1850 census, Sugar Loaf, was in Crawford County. Sebastian County was created in 1851 from Crawford, Scott and Polk Counties.

In January of 1860, her father was shot by accident and did not survive. By then, her family resided in the Marion area of Sebastian County. He was laid to rest at Steep Hill Cemetery.

She first married John Jackson Keating. According to the 1870 census, John was born in Ireland.

Between the 1870 and 1880 census, like many during this period, the Keatings changed the spelling of their name to Kating. The 1880 census, in contrast to other documents referenced, notes that John Jackson was born in Illinois, and his parents, Ireland.

Sarah Jane's mother died in 1885. According to funeral home records, John died in 1886. He was buried at Steep Hill Cemetery in Sebastian County, Arkansas, along with Sarah Jane's mother and father.

After John's death, Jane later remarried Henry Harrison Hinch.
