Bernice G. Cox, 91, of Gateway Nursing Home, Lenoir, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. She was born April 23, 1917 in Watauga County to the late Albert and Rebecca Carlton Greer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rom Cox; four brothers, Bynum, Virgil, Vaughn and Sherman Greer; two sisters, Orie Watson and Edna Hampton; and one great-granddaughter, Jennifer Parsons. Mrs. Cox was retired from Lenoir Furniture Corporation and a member of South Lenoir Church of God. She was a volunteer at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care and Caldwell Memorial Hospital for 15 years. Survivors include one son, Winifred Cox and wife Kathleen of Morganton; two daughters, Mrs. Leviolet McCall of Lenoir and Mrs. Grace Parsons and husband Harry of Granite Falls; four sisters, Melba Hayes and Gladys Gilbert, both of Wilkesboro, Ruth Miller and Maude Clawson, both of Boone; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Ernest Bowes. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
