Franklin is the sixth child of fourteen born to Henry and Rachel Elizabeth "Betsy" (Green) Pemberton.

Franklin served with Company G, 6th Regiment of the Kentucky Cavalry Volunteer from July 1862 to Sept 1865.

He married (first) Minerva Parker in Casey County, Kentucky, they have one daughter. Married (second) Caroline Boon at Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana, they have nine children.

Physical description: 6'2", light complexion, auburn hair and blue eyes.

Caroline's obit states she was buried in the family lot next to her husband. There is no marker for Franklin.
