Maxine Helen Jelinek, 87, of Winner died Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at the Winner Regional Hospital

Maxine was born on March 10, 1919 near Butte, Nebraska to Charles Henry and Isabelle Marinda (Duncan) Crabtree. Maxine lived in the Spencer, Nebraska area until 1929 when the family moved near Witten, South Dakota. She attended country school in Tripp County and graduated from Winner High School in 1939. She then attended Notre Dame Junior College in Mitchell, South Dakota and earned her Elementary Teacher's Certificate. She then taught in various country schools until her retirement in 1978.

On May 27, 1943 she married John Jelinek in Winner and then moved to the Jelinek family farm south of Winner where she resided with John until the time of her death. She was a member of the Retired Teachers' Organization and the Immaculate Conception Church.

She is survived by her husband John; her five children: LeRoy (Joyce) Jelinek of Tyndall, South Dakota, Twila (Gene) Rice, Rita (Ray) Neyens, Valora (Randy) Eddie and Keith (Sheri) Jelinek all of Winner, South Dakota; 17 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; two brothers: Donald of Santa Maria, California and Delbert (Alberta) of Pierre, South Dakota; three sisters Ila McKenzie of Onowa, Iowa, Selda Anderson of Winner, South Dakota and Norma Elsasser (Vernon) of Winner, South Dakota and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Isabelle, three brothers; Lorie, Lyonell and Clayton, two sisters Ethelda and Novella, two sisters-in-law Dorothy and Lillian and three brothers-in-law Floyd McKenzie, Bill Anderson and Otto Manhalter.

Burial will be held in the Winner Cemetery.
