He became a butcher, married Ella L. Cortes approx. 1890, and together they raised six daughters and one son on North Monroe Street, in west Baltimore. For many years he was employed by Union Stockyards.
A lifelong and passionate Orioles fan, he lost his legs to diabetes later in life but continued to follow the team on the radio and TV. Eventually he went to live with two of his daughters in Glen Burnie Park, where he spent the rest of his days.
