Howard “Howie” R. Lau, age 74, of New Holstein, passed away with his loving family at his side on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at the Calumet Medical Center in Chilton.

He was born June 22, 1940, to the late Ralph & Gladys (Jaeger) Lau. Howie attended Kiel schools and graduated from Kiel High School in 1958. On September 9, 1961, he married Bonnie Wordell at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kiel.

Howie worked at Tecumseh Engine Products in New Holstein for 43 years retiring in 2002. Howie was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in New Holstein where he served as an usher and also was a former chancel choir member. He was also a member of the Brothertown Fishing Club and the Louis Corners Sno-Birds where he enjoyed many outings with the club. He was a former member of the Kiel Municipal Band.

He loved golfing, hunting, playing cards, socializing, fishing and boating; especially the boat trips across Lake Winnebago with his friends.

Howie cherished spending time with his grandchildren. Neither rain or shine nor cold weather would keep him away from attending their school and sport activities. During inclement weather, he would be there watching from his truck. When the team did well or would score, he would beep his horn. Likewise when the weather was nice, he could be seen on his moped; again tooting the horn of his moped.

Survivors include his wife and best friend, Bonnie; his three children, Kevin Lau of Chilton, Kim (Mark) Winkel of New Holstein and Kay (Christopher “Ditch”) Dedering of Kiel; four grandchildren, Amanda (Shannon) Walsdorf, James Hall Jr. and his friend, Marlee, Justin and Ashley Dedering; two step grandchildren, Matt Winkel and Michelle (Brad) Hansen; five step great-grandchildren, Gillian Walsdorf, Aiden & Danica Winkel, Lauren and Colin Hansen; sister, Carol Heimann of Sheboygan; brother, Kurt (Sue) Lau of Kelly Lake; a brother-in-law, Roger (Carol) Wordell of New Holstein; three sisters-in-law, Janice (Mike) Loppnow of New Holstein, Connie Wordell of Plymouth and Delores Wordell of Brillion. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ralph & Gladys Lau; his in-laws, Edgar & Linda Wordell and Edna Wordell; three brothers-in-law, Karl Wordell, Robert Heimann and Richard Sauermilch and two nephews, Terry Loppnow and Keith Bratz.
