Mr. Mattis was born Feb. 4, 1894, in Italy, the son of Enrico and Maria Mattis. On May 11, 1920, he was married to Vivian Mitchell at Dubuque, Iowa. Mr. Mattis was employed by Chicago and Great Western Railroad until his retirement.
His widow survives, also three daughters, Lorraine Thurlby, Byron, Marjorie Untz, Wasco, and Verna Irion, Woodstock; three sons, Carl, Lombard; Richard, Sycamore and Wendell of Malta; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son.
The service is at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21, at the Van Natta Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold M. Kelley officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.
