Rural Youth Dies of Polio
Francis Delsman, 16, is Third to Succumb in Week of Disease

Poliomyolitis claimed another life in Manitowoc County, late Thursday afternoon. It was the third death this week and the fourth during the current epidemic in the area. The victim, Francis J. Delsman, a 16 year old boy who resided at route 3, Manitowoc, was stricken with the disease Wednesday and had been transported to the Wisconsin General Hospital at Madison, where he died yesterday.

The county’s list of polio cases, however, remained unchanged at 44 as health authorities reported no new outbreaks. Twenty-six of these cases were from the city.
Private services for the Delsman youth were held today at Pfeffer Funeral Home, with burial at Calvary Cemetery, the Rev. Henry Letz officiating. A requiem High Mass will be read by Father Letz at 10 am Monday morning.

Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Delsman Jr., of route 3, Manitowoc; two sisters, Shirley Ann and Kathryn and one brother, Allen, at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Delsman Sr., of Kossuth and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Mulholland of Rockwood.
