Thomas Lamplugh lived initially at Bursthill, near Brandesburton, where he in 1619 married Margaret Strickland. After she died in 1627, he married Grace Barwise, a Cumberland heiress, and moved to Ribton Hall, Cumberland. He served as High Sheriff in 1644, and was the guardian of his nephew Thomas (later Archbishop of York) after the death of his brother Christopher Lamplugh of Octon in 1622. Thomas and Grace Barwise had a son Richard Lamplugh (1632-1705) who served as an MP for Cumberland (1679) and as High Sheriff (1688) , and daughters Grace and Frances. Frances married her cousin Col John Lamplugh (1618-88), eldest son and heir of Sir John Lamplugh (1586-1635) of Lamplugh Hall). Their son Thomas Lamplugh (1656-1737) of Lamplugh Hall, was also an MP for Cumberland (Cockermouth) (1702-8) and High Sheriff in 1700-1.
