Absolom Runkle was born in Hovington Co., Indiana, January 15, 1864 and departed this life July 31, 1918, being 54 years, 6 months and 16 days of age at the time of his death. The deceased came from Hovington County to Marshall county, Kansas in 1876 with his parents who preceded him in death some 15 years ago. He came to Norton county, having spent latter part of his life on his farm until the last few weeks, being physically unable to care for himself. He was taken to the home of a niece, Mrs. Frank Boatman, where he died. All that medical skill and loving hands could do for him was done to allay his suffering but in vain.

Early in life he was converted in the United Brethren church and has lived a good honest life to the end.

He leaves to mourn their loss a brother, Elmer Runkle of Logan, Kansas; two sisters Mrs. Lilly Shinn of Butler Co., Kansas and Mrs. Ellen Miller of Greely, Kansas, and nieces and nephews besides a host of neighbors and friends.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. E.R. Grout from the Cactus church Thursday. Internment was made in the Mount Olive cemetery.
