Son of Thomas and Jane McCubbin, of Patna, Ayrshire.
He was a member of the crew of a Lockheed Ventura Mark 11A bomber and patrol aircraft AE 917, of Ferry Command, which went down in the North Atlantic, having sent out an SOS call. It was a twin engined plane, one of which had failed. The aircraft was on a delivery flight and had taken off from Gander, Newfoundland.
His body was recovered on the coast of Co. Sligo, and buried in a nearby cemetery.
