Buddy Wayman, 12, died April 18, 2015 after a brave fight against cancer. He had been an abandoned or lost dog roaming in a neighborhood in Memphis for a pretty good while when he found his new home with Bob, Linda and Anna Wayman, and his friend and companion from the same neighborhood, Penny, a beautiful German Shepherd. He gladly let Penny be the boss. He was loving having a home and family.

Buddy was an expert at getting human attention. He knew if he put his head on someone's lap he was going to get some loving. He only jumped up on me, his human mama, one time. That was the day I took my sister home to the Nut Bush community in Memphis. He was a pitiful little guy standing in her front yard. He walked up to me and jumped up and put his paws on my shoulder. He was begging for help. I asked about him. He was so underfed that you could see almost every bone in his little body and most of his hair was gone; not from mange, but from lack of nutrition. My sister told me he roamed the neighborhood for months and didn't really belong to anyone. She said she fed him when she could, but couldn't afford dog food. When he looked up at me, my heart melted and I called my husband, Bob, to see if he would be okay with me bringing him home. He said to bring him home.
When he came in the house he saw Penny, who had also lived in that neighborhood, but was rescued 5 months earlier after being mistreated by the person who owned her. They had so much fun together.

Buddy was so fortunate not to have had heart worms. The vet said except for being about 50 pounds underweight he was in pretty good shape. He loved sleeping on the bed and the couch. He also liked having his own doggie pillow and his own food bowl.

The vet gave me an approximate age for Buddy and Anna picked a month and day in the year he thought Buddy was born. Anna chose March 1, 2003.

He died knowing he was loved very much and he is missed so very much. Rest in peace Buddy.
