Private, Co.I 6th Virginia Infantry (Elliott Grays) CSA. The company, which was mustered into service on April 6, 1861, was the first volunteer military unit to enlist from Old Manchester and was initially known as the Rocky Ridge Rifles. It soon renamed itself in honor of the officer who recruited it, Wyatt Mosely Elliott

John A. Cersley was wounded at The Crater. His brothers, Thomas and James served with him.
