James Finnerty
The death of James Finnerty, one of the best know residents of this occurred at his home on East Main street Sunday afternoon about 2 o'clock after a lingering illness of several months with cancer, from which he suffered greatly. The deceased was born in Ireland, but came to this country when very young and had since resided here with the exception of a year or two spent in Schenectady. About 35 years ago he was married too Miss Catherine Carney, who survives. Mr. Finnerty was a devoted member of the Catholic church, belonging to the Society of the Holy Name, to the Alter Society and to the C.M.B.A. By occupation he was a mason. He possessed a genial nature and was highly respected by all who knew him. He is survived, besides his wife, by the following children; Thomas, James, Eugene, Francis, Mary and Agnes of this village and Mrs. William Wagner of Richfield Springs. He also leaves three sisters; Mrs. Ellen Gilligan, Mrs. Winifred Snyder and Mrs. Margaret Whalen of Minneapolis and two brothers; John and Michael also of Minneapolis.
The funeral was largely attended by Saints Peter and Paul church Tuesday morning. Solemn requiem mass was celebrated by Father Wallace and appropriate music was rendered by the church choir. The body was placed in the receiving vault of the Ilion cemetary, relatives acting as bearers.
